We are not Atheists - technically |
Technically the Church of Reality isn't an Atheist religion, but it comes very close, and it's not totally incorrect to classify the Church as an Atheist religion. Our official position is that if God shows up, and that means exising in objective reality, then we will believe in it. However, there exists no hard evidence that God exists, and if it does exist, it chooses to remain hidden from objective tests. So one can say with accuracy that the Church of Reality is presently an Atheistic religion. And there isn't a lot of anticipation that is likely to change any time soon.
Having said that, many people have asked what the difference is between the Church of Reality and Atheists. The Church of Reality is a religion. Atheism is not a religion. Atheism is not much more than a statement that one does not believe in God. Atheism is about what you don't believe in. Realism in contrast is about what you do believe in. Atheism is essentially a very small subset of the Church of Reality's positions.
Atheists realize that Atheism by itself is lacking in that once you don't believe in God, what do you do next? How do we live? What is right and wrong? Many Atheists embrace Secular Humanism as a companion lifestyle.
