I'm not a religious guy and never started a church before. I'm not even entirely comfortable with the thought of being a church because that implies worshiping something. I'm looking at this as a way to get more people to want to look at reality the way it really is. I'm getting tired of being the only sane person on the planet. (I'm joking)

Here's a list of what needs to be done. This is a changing list. As I accomplish things I'll remove items. As I get new ideas I'll add items. I'd like to get this going fairly quickly.

• Spread the Word - The name is the message. If most of the people in the world were just to hear the name "Church of Reality" and have a vague idea that it is a religion based on believing in what's real, they then ask the sacred question, "What is real?", that in itself would make a huge difference in the world.


• Link to Us - The more people link to the Church of Reality the more people find it. It also helps with Google searches because Google ranks you higher based on the number of people that link to your site.


• Ideas - I'm always looking for great ideas and suggestions, especially early on. If you do something right in the first place you don't have to do it over later. Feel free to suggest and participate.


• IRS Church Status - I've started the paperwork. I've ordered several books from Nolo Press an not-for-profit organization. Any advice would be appreciated.


• Income - If I'm going to continue to do this, I need an income. Besides begging for donations, I need some products to sell like T-Shirts, buttons, bumper stickers, and sequentially numbered certificates of membership. Looking for ideas.


• Activities - I want to see local activities on a regular basis. I'm picturing meetings where people get together to argue and explore interesting subjects much like Mensa, but without the IQ test requirement. I need names for these meetings and ideas to bring people together and fulfill much of the needs that people go to church for. Let's get together. This church has no Sabbath so we have the advantage of using any day of the week that works.


• Charities - I want to be a conduit of tax deductible money for useful charitable projects. Just what, I don't yet know.


• Projects - I feel strongly about freedom and justice. We need freedom and justice to support an advanced society where the pursuit of reality can be enjoyed without fear and oppression. One of the church's missions is to work for freedom and justice.


• Membership - What are the requirements? I suppose it should be fairly open to those who pay a membership fee. I hope to sell sequentially numbered membership certificates so that those with a low number will always be stored in a computer database and will be known as the ones who got it started. It's like being an employee at Microsoft with a really low employee number.


• Advertising, Promotion, Public Relations - How do we market it? Spread the word? Relate to the rest of reality? I don't want foaming at the mouth Christians burning my house down because they think they can stop the real world by killing the messenger. I'm looking for media attention so if anyone knows anyone who will write articles about this religion, send them this way.


• Symbols and Artwork - I'm looking for symbols and artwork for the web pages, letterhead, and things to put on T-Shirts, coffee mugs, and bumper stickers.


• Hymns - Need some songs. How about, "Oh, what a friend we have in Darrr-winnn."

I'd like to get started right away. Feel free to jump in and participate.
