The Principle of Patience and Persistence |
We live on a planet where over 99.99% of all species that have ever existed are now extinct. There's nothing that makes Humanity any different from the species that didn't make it. Those who get it right survive, those who get it wrong don't. The Church of Reality by definition has a vested interest in our collective survival. Our purpose is the understanding of reality as it really is. In order to do that we have to continue to exist.
In the Church of Reality getting it right isn't optional. Our religion is future based and in order for there to be a positive future we are going to have to figure it out based on real reality. To do that we have to be both patient and persistent. We can't give up, and we can't rush it. It is against our principles to give in to extinction.
Many other religions have a concept of Heaven and Hell where in the next life you will be judged based on your sins and will live forever in either paradise or torment. In the Church of Reality we don't have individual afterlives, but if we look at humanity as a species and all life on this planet as an evolving single organism, then our lives are a piece of the evolution of the planet. What we do with our lives affects the outcome of our species and what life on Earth will evolve into. Thus the future of humanity is our next life. It is the world where our children will live. A future built one generation at a time. That's why the future is our Sacred Direction.
Our world view of Heaven and Hell is that we as a planet are judged by reality and if we embrace reality and make good choices then we will build a Heaven for our children to live in. However if we turn our back on reality then our future will be a Hell and we will have to face the consequences of our bad choices. We might even face extinction.
Many religions envision the "end of the world". They call it Armageddon. And it is consistent with their world view. When you turn your back on reality it can lead to extinction. Bad choices produce bad results. But if we want a future that is better than today then we have to make it happen. Failure is not an option. Therefore we Realists commit to be patient and persistent.
